BIO

Tammy van Wisse is an iconic long-distance swimmer from Australia whose extraordinary career is a testament to her indomitable spirit and remarkable achievements garnered over the years. Her journey is one of triumph over adversity. From conquering the frigid waters of Loch Ness to braving the treacherous Bass and Cook Straits, she has demonstrated her mastery at overcoming extreme challenges. In 1993, she etched her name in the record books by becoming the fastest person to swim across the English Channel. Her indomitable spirit reached new heights in 1996 when she swam 18 hours non-stop across the perilous Bass Strait, a feat no one else on the planet has accomplished. Dubbed the Human Water Quality Tester, she has been a staunch advocate for cleaner waterways, using her swims as a platform to raise environmental awareness. In 2001, she embarked on an epic journey, swimming the entire 2,438-kilometre length of the Murray River in Australia.
