Richard Whitehead

BIO

Richard Whitehead MBE is a Double Gold Paralympic medalist, 4 x World Champion and European Champion in the T61 200m. Richard set world records for athletes with a double amputation, in both the full and half marathons. In 2010, he broke his previous world record for athletes with lower-limb amputations. However, the 100m and 200m events are where Whitehead has become one of the world’s leading Paralympians. Richard has won a total of nine gold medals across the Paralympic Games, IPC World Championships and IPC European Championships and gave a spectacular performance during the London 2017 World Para Athletic Championships, winning gold in the Men’s 200m and Bronze in the Men’s 100m. Richard completed a goal of running 40 marathons in 40 days for charity in 2013 and four further gold medal wins since. In 2021, after their postponement, Richard competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and claimed Paralympic Silver in the T61 200m.
