Matthew Mitcham

BIO

Matthew Mitcham is a champion Australian Olympian, Diver and Trampolinist. Notably, he earned global recognition as the first openly gay Olympic Champion, making history by securing the gold medal in the 10m platform at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His remarkable performance included achieving the highest single-dive score in Olympic history at that time. In addition to this historic achievement, Matthew became the first Australian male to clinch an Olympic gold medal in diving since 1924. Mitcham embarked on his competitive diving journey after transitioning from trampolining, where he showcased his talent by winning the double mini-tramp event at the World Junior Championships in 1999 and 2001. His early years in diving were marked by impressive victories, becoming a national junior champion from 2002 to 2004.
