BIO
Lori Campbell is an Indigenous Canadian who has dedicated her life to advocating for social justice and uplifting Indigenous communities in Canada. As the Associate Vice-President Indigenous Engagement and a Sixties Scoop survivor, Lori has faced immense challenges and overcome them with resilience and determination. Born in Regina, Lori experienced the traumatic effects of the infamous Sixties Scoop, a dark chapter in Canadian history where Indigenous children were forcibly taken from their families and placed with white, mostly Christian families in an attempt to assimilate them into Anglo-European culture. This resulted in the loss of identity, feelings of shame, loneliness, and confusion, which were recognised as cultural genocide by the Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Despite the setbacks she faced, Lori was determined to rise above her circumstances.
SKILLS
Indigenous Culture | Leadership | Indigiqueer | Decolonisation | Resilience | Cultural Reclamation | Indigenous Rights | Empowerment | Community Engagement | Advocacy | Public Speaking | Commitment to Positive Change Lori pursued higher education and found a new perspective at the university, which helped her reclaim her Cree-Métis roots and understanding her heritage in a deeper way. Her journey of self-discovery also involved reconnecting with her birth mother, whom she had not seen since childhood, and her six younger siblings who had been placed in foster care or put up for adoption. This experience gave her a sense of inner power and ignited her passion for advocating for Indigenous rights and empowerment. Today, Lori Campbell is recognised as a social justice crusader, a Two-Spirit activist, and a respected leader in post-seconday. Her indomitable spirit, street smarts, and compassion are evident in her work and interactions with others.
