Alastair Lynch will be remembered as one of the all-time greats of AFL football after a career that spanned 17 years and 306 games at the highest level. He was a former captain and key member of the history-making Brisbane Lions that won an extraordinary three premierships in 2001, 2002 and 2003 to be rated arguably the best team of all time. The powerhouse key position athlete played six years at Fitzroy and 11 years in Brisbane. An All-Australian selection in 1993 as a Full Back, he was Lions co-captain from 1997 to 2000 and remained a highly regarded leader of the star-studded Lions outfit. Alastair has also been inducted into the Fitzroy Team of the Century and the Tasmanian Team of the Century. Arguably Alastair’s greatest victory was overcoming a mystery illness that saw him bedridden for much of the 1995 season. Overcoming adversity both mentally and physically, playing for a further 9 years makes for a compelling story of personal and team success.
