William Martin

BIO

William Martin is an international Paralympic swimmer for Australia who began swimming as a form of rehabilitation after he suffered a stroke in 2007, before competitively swimming in 2010. At the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials, he smashed the world record for the Men’s 100m Butterfly (S9) securing his place on the Australian Tokyo 2020 Team. In his first Paralympic Games Will was nothing short of exceptional winning three gold medals and one silver medal. The first gold medal coming in the 400m freestyle S9, putting his name into the history books with a Paralympic record. In the men’s 100m butterfly S9, Will demolished the world record beating his previous record by 0.95 of a second to triumph for gold. Will broke another world record in the 4x100m freestyle relay to be crowned Paralympics Champions. Will finished his Paralympic campaign by capturing a silver medal in the men’s 4x100m medley relay.
